ORANGE TRASH BAGS

IMPLEMENTATION OF PROGRAM CHANGE

August 2006

  1. In the first two weeks of September, two public works men will be scheduled early on Fridays, before trash collection begins, to inspect for compliance.  If a violation is noted, the trash will be picked up, however, a notice reminding the resident of the policy change will be left at homes that have not complied with the new policy.   A warning will advise that a court summons will be issued by Police if the trash is not packaged in an orange bag.

  1. A record will be kept of the addresses where violations are found.

  1. After the first two weeks, if violations continue to occur, a list of those who previously received a warning will be provided to Chief Lacy who will direct that a court violation be issued.

  1. Orange stickers will no longer be provided to vendors to sell to residents.  They must be purchased at Borough Hall with an explanation of what it will be used for.

  1. Unused orange stickers may be exchanged at Borough Hall for an equivalent value in trash bags (determined to be two of the old large bags for each sticker) The exchange option will be in effect only until the end of September 2006.

  1. A notice will be placed at each store supplying the bags and at Borough Hall advising of the exchange policy.

  1. Reserve some or the old large orange bags to be used for the barter program through the end of September, but continue to sell the remainder of the old large orange bags until they’re gone.      If we run out of the bags before the end of September, replace any stickers that are returned with an equivalent value in bags.
