OBJECTS OF THE SOCIETY
"The object of this Society shall be:
Section 1. To acquire and preserve documents, records, and relics of Pilesgrove Township and Woodstown Boro. Section 2. To encourage the protection and preservation of the historical landmarks and points of interest within the County.
Section 3. To encourage historical and genealogical research, and publication of its results.
Section 4. To make all information and acquisitions of the Society available to the public."

The Reverend Serena Curtis, the
current pastor, and Deacon Reggie Bounds will present a History of the
Spencer Union American Methodist Episcopal Church. They will discuss the history of the
church, built in 1818, which was originally called "The Union Church of
Africans of Baileytown." In 1852 the name of the church was changed to
its current name. A tour of the building
will be provided.

Current Board member and Pilesgrove resident, Frank Stubbins,
will present a program on the Making of a Glass Lily Pad Pitcher. Frank has had an interest in and been a
collector of early glass for about 35 years. In early 1984 he had the opportunity to become a charter member of a
small group of four men who wanted to learn the art of glassblowing. Since 1986, the group has traveled around the
five-state area doing glassblowing demonstrations. Frank is dedicated to educating the public
about a history and artform that he loves.

A
representative from the State Archives Division will present a program
detailing The Procedure for Tracing Family Genealogy and the
resources available through the Division of Archives Records Management in
Jan Edwards, the present
Mayor of Woodstown, will discuss the history of several Commercial
Businesses of Woodstown and the Snelbaker Home. This program will highlight
many of the old stores including the former Opera house, operated by his father
and brother; and the Snelbaker Home, currently a home
for older women. A tour of the residence
will be provided.
The Reverend Glenn Ferguson, the
current pastor, will present a History of the Asbury United Methodist
Church. He will discuss the history
of the church, constructed in the mid-1800s, and escort us on a tour of the
building. This program will be held at
the church.
John Musumeci,
the current owner of the former Reeve and Brothers Shipyard property in Alloway, will discuss the Ship Building in Allowaystown. He
will review the history of the property from sawmill to shipyard, including the
numerous vessels that were constructed there. Among these were the Stephen Baldwin, built in
1839, which was the first commercial steamboat in
