WOODSTOWN BOROUGH
NOTICE OF CHANGE IN
ORANGE TRASH BAG SALES
TO ALL RESIDENTS: The cost of the orange trash bags has not been increased in Woodstown since 1993, but the cost of trash collection continues to increase each year because of inflation in general, and also because of the increased tonnage needing to be collected. The end result is a budget shortfall due to the increased disposal costs. Revenue generated from the sale of orange trash bags is intended to pay for the cost of trash disposal in the Borough. The current shortfall is $70,567.35 which is subsidized by all taxpayers through a 4.8 cent local purpose tax regardless of the amount of trash each household generates. This across the board tax unfairly impacts those who generate less trash.
The improper use of orange stickers and the low fees charged for disposal of large items such as furniture and appliances also negatively impacts the cost of disposal. The increased fees and greater control on the use of orange stickers is intended to make disposal costs more fair to residents who generate less trash
Keep in mind that there is no cost to dispose of recyclables and by separating your recyclables from the trash will reduce the number of trash bags needed in each household.
